"Chalice" is the name given to a sorcerer of Rhuv who agrees to possession by a magical entity.[1] The magic required to create such a relationship is defined as sorcery.[2]
One chalice, Captain Emliss, had a rune tattooed on the back of her neck. This rune literally meant "chalice" in the Rhuvian language, but it also had a sorcerous meaning that Suvi was unable to decipher.[1]
Becoming a chalice confers high status among Rhuvian magic-users.[1]
Chalices first came to the attention of the Citadel during a Rhuvian incursion into the Erien about 14 years ago. At that time, chalices were a relatively new innovation which the Citadel believed to be still in the development stage. For a time after the incursion, Chalices became rarer to see in combat with the Citadel, but recently they have become very active.[3]
