Akham is a large bar-shaped island in the southern hemisphere of Umora. The island is about 200 hundred miles long, running from northwest to southeast. To the east is the mainland and to the west is an ocean, neither named as yet.[1][2][3] The climate in Akham is temperate.[4]
Though Akham is a part of the Kehmsarazan Empire, it lies at the furthest (western) edge of the empire's control.[3][5] Ownership of the island is contested by opponents of the Empire.[6] About 25 years ago, the Empire made a push to solidify their hold on the island by creating a traveling door in the town of Silbry.[1]
- Port Talon, a large port city to the north of the island, the Empire's military stronghold[2]
-
Joras, a port city to the south of the island[2]
- Joras is about five times the size of Silbry, and faces east.
- The city is split into two sections: a lower city near the harbor, and a cliffside into which several shelves and staircases have been cut. The lower city is near the shoreline and encompasses an active harbor. The cliffside has a small number of residential neighborhoods and a grand market that follows along one of the larger staircases. At the top of the cliff are farms, orchards, and other cultivated land.[1]
- The harbor has several sea stacks[2] in it, which are wider at the top than they are at the bottom. Sheep sometimes graze at the top of them, though it is unclear how the sheep can make that journey.[1]
-
Silbry, a seaside town[5]
- Silbry (sometimes: Silbury, Silbery[1]) is a port town on the island of Akham.[2]
- When the Citadel uses its Halls of Teleportation to send someone to Silbry, they land in the same place -- a town square with a mural advertisement for Enlos and Daughters Tea Company.[2]
- In 1656, in coordination with Rhuv's incursion on the Citadel, Silbry was attacked and some part of the town was set on fire.[3]
-
Toma, a village near Silbry[5]
- Toma is situated about an hour's walk from The Cottage,[2] and a "short ride" from Silbry.[3] It has a population of about 500 people.[4] The Road from Toma to the Cottage meets a cross road not far out from the village, where the road to Silbry goes off to the left and the long punishing one to Port Talon goes of to the right.[5]
- In one corner of the town there is a water mill and there are clusters of small buildings everywhere. There is a small stage in the centre of town that is used for festivals and music and a shrine that Grandmother Wren populated with images and idles of many of the Great Spirits of Akham, among them the Great Bear, Naram, The King of Storms, The Merry Hunter and Orima.[6] The town is surrounded by fields flowers.[6][7]
- The villagers of Toma are friendly and helpful people who are quick to help their community. Notable places include
-
Lamry, a village near Port Talon[7]
- Lamry is roughly a 1.5-day walk due west, inland of Port Talon.[2] Orima's Shrine is located a short walk outside the town in a place of honor.[3] Being so close to Orima's hub of influence in the mortal world, Lamry is entirely buried under deep kudzu.[4]
- Old Thriss[8] on the southern part of the island.
